Ideally, serious accidents and expensive workers compensation claims will be avoided through a strong emphasis on employee safety and loss prevention. However, in the event that a serious accident does occur and a large claim is filed, Hickok & Boardman will provide early intervention support to help assure that the employer has maximum control of the situation and opportunity for cost containment.
For a workers compensation claim with an exposure of $25,000 or more, Hickok & Boardman will activate its triage protocol. Once there is notification from either the employer or the carrier, we will:
- Contact the employee's supervisor to confirm the event
- Assure, through the supervisor, that a thorough investigation is conducted
- Review with the supervisor any immediate changes that can be made to avoid similar future accidents
- Consult with the employer about directing the employee's medical care to the fullest extent permitted under the applicable statute
- Contact the adjuster to discuss appropriately reserving the claim
- Review the case for potential medical or eventual vocational case management
- Set up the claim at Hickok & Boardman for regular status review
- Stay in regular contact with the employer and the adjuster to assure that the claim is on a critical path to timely closure
- Review early transitional return-to-work opportunities with the appropriate individual(s) at the employer
- Work with the supervisor around how to most effectively communicate with the employee while he/she is out of work and collecting benefits
There are many things an employer can do to help reduce the cost of a serious claim. Hickok & Boardman, Inc. has made a commitment to providing the expertise and resource support necessary to accomplish that important objective.
